PHOENIXVILLE, PA — HBO's sequel to "Mare of Easttown" will film in the Phoenixville area this week, leading to road closures and generating new excitement for a franchise that has already developed something of a cult following.

The sequel "Task," featuring Mark Ruffalo as an FBI agent from Philadelphia, will once again feature the suburban area heavily. It's not yet clear if Ruffalo will adopt as convincing a Delco accent as Kate Winslet did for "Mare."

The filming will lead to a closure of Route 29 in Phoenixville and Schuylkill Township from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 through 2 a.m. on Thursday, May 30.

The crew was also over in Mont Clare on Tuesday, with activity on 4th Street, Fegley Street, Landis Street, and Jacobs Street. Montgomery County authorities said that Upper Providence police officers would be on hand to help residents with parking and other questions.

Studio officials added that police-like vehicles may be spotted by passerby during filming.

While original reports suggested the closure was due to an Apple Studios production, a PennDOT spokesperson confirmed to Patch that it is actually HBO's "Task." Apple TV's Ridley Scott-produced "Sinking Spring" has also been filming around the greater Philadelphia area, but that crew is not part of the filming in the Phoenixville area this week.

"Mare of Easttown" creator and Berwyn native Brad Ingelsby will also helm "Task," which has been filming around Delaware County locations like Chadds Ford, Edgemont Township, and Upper Chichester this spring. Principal photography began in March.

Plot details have been largely kept under wraps, though various reports describe Ruffalo's character as a "damaged" agent, and Deadline indicated that he could even run into Kate Winslet's Mare at some point during the season.

Aside from bringing national attention to the notorious Philly accent and Wawa (and places like "Royers-ferd" in a classic SNL spoof), "Mare" was critically acclaimed and won four Primetime Emmy awards in 2021.
