Open-Air Dining In Phoenixville: Survey Results

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — The results of a survey of whether to continue closing streets on weekends from the end of May through October for Phoenixville's open-air dining are in.

An overwhelming majority of the general public favors closing streets from the end of May through October for open-air dining.

However, most business owners would like to reduce the number of weekends from every weekend to once a month.

The borough surveyed businesses in response to complaints during the November owner that closing the streets during the weekends is hampering business.

Council members will review the results and determine the fate of opening-air dining.

The same issue was raised last year. The council voted unanimously to bring back open-air dining

During the PVX Inside Out Open Air Experience, Bridge Street was closed to vehicular traffic between Starr Street and Main Street, and from Main Street to Gay Street.

Survey results of 74 businesses

Question: How often would you like to see Open Air Experience:

• Once a month: 43 percent, or 32.
• Every weekend May through November: 27 percent, or 20.
• Every weekend Memorial Day through Labor Day: 13.5 percent, or 10
• Some months every weekend and others just the first Friday: 12 percent, or 9.
• Not at all: 4 percent, or 3.

Question: Has your business participated?

• Yes: 63.5 percent, or 47
• No: 36.4 percent or 27

• Yes: 51.3 percent: 38
• No: 38 percent: 36

A total of 2,324 people in the general population participated in a separate survey.

Question: How often would you like to see Open Air Experience:

• Every weekend from May to November: 56.7 percent. or 1,319.
• Every weekend Memorial Day to Labor Day: 17.3 percent, or 412
• Some months every weekend, others First Friday: 12.7 percent, or 296
• Once a month: 11.4 percent, or 265
• Not at all: 1.3 percent, 32.
