PECO Warns Customers To Be Aware Of Scammers

PECO reports an uptick in scammers contacting customers for money.

SOUTHEASTERN, PA— PECO utility company warns customers that scammers are targeting victims claiming to be PECO bill collectors.

Scammers use utility companies to pocket quick cash. They contact customers and say their service will be disconnected if they do not make a payment.

PECO said these calls are going up by as much as 30 percent. In a typical year, PECO reports about 2,000 scam calls.

PECO said scammers used fake numbers on the phone that appeared to be from PECO.

The electric company said PECO will never ask customers for a bill in cash, prepaid debit or credit cards, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.

PECO provides the tips to avoid being scammed.

  • Store bills and financial information in a safe place.
  • Check your printed bill for balances, account status, and supplier information.
  • Never open your door to someone you do not recognize
