PHOENIXVILLE, PA — A new bus shelter has been installed at a SEPTA stop in Phoenixville after authorities identified it as one of the region's high-use areas most in need of a shelter.

The shelter is at bus stop by the intersection of Church Street and Main Street, where SEPTA routes 99 and 139 pass.

“Public transportation is a lifeline for many of our residents, connecting them to jobs, healthcare, education, and other day-to-day needs," Chester County Commissioner Josh Maxwell said. "Something as simple as a bus shelter can make a big difference—providing comfort and safety for riders as they wait.”

Officials say it supports the county's Public Transportation Plan, which aims to both improve rider experience on public transit but also improve accessibility.

Borough manager E. Jean Krack called Phoenixville a "regional civic, economic and population center." Phoenixville also serves as a benchmark in the county and wider area for walkability and pedestrian infrastructure, which is further improved by the amenity.

The shelter includes sustainable solar lighting for riders who are waiting at night.

The Chester County Planning Commission worked with the borough and SEPTA to identify the location and build the shelter.
