Phoenixville, PA — Back-to-school season brings a mix of excitement and nerves — for students, parents and staff alike. Thankfully, Phoenixville is home to everyday school heroes who help make the transition smoother and the school year a little brighter.

From teachers and tutors to bus drivers, cafeteria staff, crossing guards and more, these caring individuals bring steady support and positivity to our schools. To recognize their many contributions — big and small — Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to salute the unsung heroes of back-to-school.

Please describe why this individual is a hero at your school.

Shannon has been a 1st grade teacher at Skippack for over 20 years. Every year she goes above and beyond to prepare her 1st grade classroom to be as inviting as possible for her new students. She has been instrumental in bringing new programs to the school, such has bringing therapy dogs to school for both teachers and students. Her commitment to her craft is amazing.

What should your community know about this person?

Shannon is a loving and caring teacher, daughter and friend. Her commitment to her students, family and friends is amazing. She also has a huge love of animals, and it shows with her commitment to her pup Benny. She gives countless hours to her students and well as taking classes for her pup to be a Therapy Dog. Bringing her love and compassion of animals to her classroom teaches her students a very valuable lesson. Shannon brought the Therapy Dog program to her school for her fellow teachers. Whose day does not get better when you have a fluffy dog to love and pet.
