PHOENIXVILLE, PA — One of the Philadelphia area's most iconic festivals and cultural celebrations is returning to Phoenixville this summer.

The Colonial Theatre's annual Blobfest will be held from July 11 to July 13. It's the 26th year of the event, which celebrates the Theatre and its role in the cult classic Steve McQueen film, "The Blob." The 1958 movie was filmed at the Colonial and around Phoenixville.

“Blobfest is more than just a celebration of such a classic film, it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and the enduring legacy of the Colonial Theatre,” Jennifer Carlson, the executive director of the Colonial Theatre, said in a statement. “Each year, we’re thrilled to see generations of fans come together in Phoenixville to embrace the weird, the wonderful, and the wonderfully weird. With this year’s new additions and expanded access, we’re proud to make Blobfest more inclusive, more imaginative, and more unforgettable than ever.”

The event includes a street fair, costume contest, and screenings of the film. This year's festival also includes expanded efforts to Phoenixville's Hispanic community, providing free screenings to the Spanish-language version of the film, "La Masa Devoradora."

A highlight of the weekend is a reenactment of a key scene in the film, where theatre-goers run in terror from the Colonial and out onto Bridge Street.
