A SOLID schedule of great outdoor music with TREMENDOUS talents on tap for THIS weekend!

Three all-time greats come to our area to perform some of their best stuff - These are LEGENDARY musicians that should not be missed...

Welcome back!

Only three outdoor show to tell you about for the upcoming weekend, but HOLY COW, they are three FANTASTIC shows by three AMAZING artists!

First up on Friday, June 13th at Concerts Under the Stars in nearby King of Prussia will be none other than Steve Earle! He's a singer-songwriter's singer-songwriter & a must-see-live performer if you can make the scene... One of the most celebrated musicians of his generation, Steve Earle first won an audience as a country artist, though it didn't take long for him to demonstrate that designation was too narrow for him. Earle's music runs the gamut from country (1986's Guitar Town), bluegrass (1999's The Mountain), and rock (1988's Copperhead Road) to folk (2007's Washington Square Serenade, and blues (2015's Terraplane). His populist lyrical stance, literate yet down to earth, finds room for the personal and the political, writing about the stuff of everyday lives as well as the forces that shape and define their existence. Earle's naturally rebellious nature had an impact on his personal and professional lives; his most popular and celebrated work has a strong outlaw streak, and his unwillingness to play nice with record companies (as well as his struggles with addiction and his history of stormy marriages) attracted a certain breed of fans while alienating others. However, his versatility, the strength of his work, and consistent critical acclaim helped him attract a loyal following happy to follow his stylistic evolution. He staked his claim to country stardom with 1986's Guitar Town, and displayed a harder rock sound on 1988's commercial breakthrough Copperhead Road. Toward the early '90s, his career was thrown off track by personal problems and substance abuse, but he re-emerged stronger and healthier with two of his most critically acclaimed albums, 1995's Train A Comin' and 1996's I Feel Alright. Earle celebrated his love for bluegrass on 1999's The Mountain, while his progressive political views dominated his work from the 2000s. He returned to personal themes on 2011's I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive, and made a full-bodied return to country sounds with 2017's So You Wannabe an Outlaw and 2020's Ghosts of West Virginia, the latter of which chronicled the 2010 mining explosion that killed 29 workers. Earle has also recorded a handful of albums paying homage to songwriters who influenced him including Townes Van Zandt (2009's Townes), Guy Clark (2019's Guy), and Jerry Jeff Walker (2022's Jerry Jeff). With 2024's Alone Again... (Live), Earle documented a solo acoustic tour where he took his music back to basics.

On Saturday, June 14th at the same venue in King of Prussia, Concerts Under the Stars present another legend in the guise of Aimee Mann! An artist of perceptive intelligence who possesses a refined sense of craft, Mann has sustained a long, successful career that ran from the twilight of new wave until the height of adult alternative pop. She first came to prominence as the leader of 'Til Tuesday, a stylish pop outfit who had a Top Ten hit with "Voices Carry" in 1985. 'Til Tuesday didn't manage to score a second big hit, but by their last album, Everything's Different Now, in 1988, Mann was collaborating with Jules Shear and Elvis Costello, a sign of how respected she was by her songwriting peers. She launched her solo career in 1993 with Whatever, landing an alternative rock hit with "I Should've Known," but it was its 1995 sequel, I'm with Stupid," that was instrumental in building the loyal audience that would stick with her through the decades. Mann consolidated that cult success with her soundtrack to Paul Thomas Anderson's 1999 epic Magnolia, work that led to an Academy Award nomination for Best Song for "Save Me." Bachelor No. 2 or, the Last Remains of the Dodo arrived in its wake, the first of many albums she released on her indie label SuperEgo.. Her consistency -- every few years, she'd release a new set of originals -- overshadowed her artistic hunger, as she complemented her regular albums by appearing in films, collaborating with Ted Leo in the Both, and working in musical theater, including writing music for a musical adaptation of Girl, Interrupted that turned into her 2021 album, Queen of the Summer Hotel.

If that's not enough for you - On Sunday, June 15th over there at the Bryn Mawr Concert Series will be Old 97's frontman Rhett Miller! The Texas native is perhaps best-known as the frontman of the Dallas-based alt-country band the Old 97's, although he has also pursued a critically acclaimed solo career. Formed in 1993, the Old 97's built a devoted following with their brash blend of country and power pop influences, making a splash with 1995's Wreck Your Life, which won the group a brief stay on the roster of Elektra Records, a period kicked off with one of their finest hours, 1997's Too Far to Care. All four members also pursued side projects, but Miller's solo career captured the most attention, with the literate songwriter training his eye on such subjects as fatherhood, sex, and love. Making his solo bow with 2002's The Instigator, most of Miller's solo albums have been dominated by cool, melodic pop tunes with a drier and more confessional bent than his work with the band, though 2012's The Dreamer explored a middle ground between his pop and alt-country sensibilities, the 2011 set The Interpreter: Live at Largo revealed he's a sure hand with other people's songs, and 2018's The Messenger and 2022's The Misfit were adventurous collaborations with producer and multi-instrumentalist Sam Cohen.
