As the Weather Heats Up; So Does the Local Outdoor Concert Scene

Some spectacular outdoor shows being offered in our area this week as the temps start to POP - A great way to spend a summer night...

Well, looks like summertime is OFFICIALLY here & with that comes some scorching temps & even hotter outdoor musical events for these sultry summer evenings...

Things kick off out in Eagleview TONIGHT when Roberta Faceplant hits the stage - They are a honky tonk hurricane from Philadelphia. The 5-piece Outlaw Americana band has been called “a cowpunk miracle” and been compared to “Southern Culture on the Skids fronted by Laura Bell Bundy.” It’s Country, but you can hear the city.

Vocalist and singer/songwriter Katie Feeney leads the band with a voice that blends the raw, rock n’ roll grit of Janis Joplin with the whimsical, western smoothness of Patsy Cline. Staffed by a gang of mischievous musical veterans, Roberta Faceplant’s live show is high-energy roadhouse joy infused with a rebellious spirit that'll keep you on the dance floor all night.
The band’s sound has captivated audiences in the Northeast Corridor with elements of southern rock, old school country, rockabilly, and the blues blending perfectly into a melting pot of killer melodies, memorable riffs, and playful storytelling.

Opening for Roberta Faceplant will be none other than the acclaimed singer-songwriter Gary Jules! Best known for his hauntingly beautiful rendition of "Mad World," which has amassed over 228 million streams on Spotify and was featured prominently in both the film Donnie Darko & Epic Game’s Gears of War. It also made Jules only the 6th American act ever to win the coveted UK Christmas #1 single across the pond back in 2003.

Jules remains a timeless beacon of authenticity, capturing the hearts of listeners with his evocative voice and poignant songwriting. With a rich musical history and an ever-evolving repertoire, he remains a vital force in the industry, inspiring and touching the lives of countless listeners around the world.

Meanwhile, over at the gazebo in Bryn Mawr, there's gonna be a celebration of sorts to mark the 20 (!) year reunion for performers from The Point - That storied club that brought some of the greatest artists as close to the footprint of the old Main Point there in Bryn Mawr to create a legacy of their own... Anyone who saw a show there has a story to tell - and we must have at least a DOZEN! This 'reunion' will give us a chance to remember - to honor - & to love on Richard, Jesse, & the whole Point crew who did such a great thing for all of those years their doors were open... Just an amazing time & place!

This event kicks off on Friday, June 27th & has Point stalwarts with the likes of Jim Boggia, Erin McKeown, Leigh Goldstein, Stargazer Lily, Don McCloskey & John Francis O'mara slated to appear - But don't be surprised if other musical luminaries show up during the proceedings to share their love for the place... It was that kind of vibe & that sort of thing doesn't fade away too easily...

Finally, on Saturday, July 28th at King of Prussia's Concerts Under the Stars series will be Strand of Oak - The band is the brain-child of Philly-based singer/songwriter Tim Showalter who specializes in bold and anthemic indie-Americana that draws from classic rock and folk. Showalter is one of those people who feels... and makes you feel, too, both in conversation, where he's earnest and generous and empathetic, and with his music. He's a tough-looking guy with a beard, tattoos and a flat Midwestern accent, who's pretty open about taking drugs. He thinks a lot about where life is taking him.

"I read somewhere that the idea of joy, and to live a joyful life, is different than living a happy life," he told NPR's Steve Inskeep a few years back. "Happiness is fleeting. Happiness is something that you're always going to reach for but you're never gonna quite get or be satisfied with." For Strand of Oaks, "joy" is being fully engaged in life, whether it goes well or badly. His music deals with some of the highest and lowest points of his own life.

Deeply personal messages that are immensely satisfying to witness as it is performed live...
