Already Facing Child Endangerment Charges, Pottstown Mom Arrested Again

April Saul, 43, of the 100 block of King Street, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she allegedly stole items from the Dollar+Beauty store.

The Pottstown mother who was arrested for removing her seriously ill daughter from the hospital is now dealing with additional charges, after she was allegedly caught on video stealing items from the Dollar+Beauty store on High Street.

According to the police report, April Saul, 43, of the 100 block of King Street, was captured on video stealing a hair weave, lipstick, eye-liner and stockings from the store shortly before noon on April 6. She returned to the store at 4:53 p.m., at which point the owner locked the door behind her while an employee called police, the report states.

Saul was able to force her way out of the store, but the owner grabbed her arm and held her on the scene until police arrived, according to the report. She was then taken into custody, where she allegedly told police that "she was not going to say anything else because she would get herself in more trouble," police said.

Saul was issued a citation for retail theft, and was informed that she is no longer permitted to enter the store.

In December of last year, Saul made headlines across the region when she and her boyfriend – Daniel Rivera, 43, of Pottstown – were charged with endangering the welfare of a child and disorderly conduct after removing their seriously ill daughter from Lehigh Valley Hospital against medical advice.

In comments posted to previous Patch coverage, Saul stated that they removed their daughter because they wanted her transfered to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, but Lehigh Valley Hospital refused their repeated requests.

“Danny and I pled, in meeting after meeting with Lehigh Valley, for months,” Saul said, in our previous coverage. “We kept saying, ‘We feel as though you lack expertise. We feel as though our child has issues you can’t address. We want her transferred. What do we have to do to get our baby transferred?’ For months we were just getting the runaround. ... They were just completely uncooperative.”

That case was scheduled for a preliminary hearing today, but it was continued to a date that has yet to be determined.

Prior to the child endangerment case, Saul has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2002, according to court records.

In one of her more recent arrests, Saul was charged with robbery after she allegedly stole the wallet of a naked man inside the French Creek Inn in August 2010. Saul allegedly baited the man into the bathroom under the premise of sex, but when he took his clothes off, she threatened the man with a pair of scissors, according to reports.

She ended up pleading out to the lesser charge of misdemeanor theft by unlawful taking, leading to a sentence of one-to-23 months in prison.

Saul has also pleaded guilty to previous charges of possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
