Drumheller Chosen as Pottstown's New Police Chief
Drumheller has been a captain with the department since July of 2007, and will replace outgoing chief Mark Flanders, whose retirement becomes official on April 14.

Following a unanimous vote by Pottstown Borough Council during Monday night's meeting, Captain Richard Drumheller has been selected to become the borough's new police chief.
Drumheller has been a captain with the department since July of 2007, and will replace outgoing chief Mark Flanders, whose retirement becomes official on April 14, according to reports. Flanders, who is also the borough manager, has been working both positions since November.
Prior to the promotion becoming official, Drumheller has to complete a civil service exam and negotiate an employment contract with the borough, according to WFMZ. If there's a gap in time between Flanders' retirement and Drumheller's official appointment, Drumheller would still be able to lead the department since he's currently the captain, the report adds.

In speaking to the Mercury, Drumheller stated he's not planning any "sweeping changes", but he would like to see the borough's police department play a more preemptive role in the community, as opposed to primarily being a reactive force.
Additional reports state that Drumheller will also seek to develop better relationships between police and members of the community, which may include the creation of Pottstown Police pages on social media networks like Facebook and Twitter.

As long as Drumheller passes the civil service exam and is able to negotiate a salary with the borough, he will be sworn in as chief in May.
