FEMA: Two Days Left For Irene, Lee Help

From the Montgomery County Dept of Public Safety:

December 14 is the deadline to apply for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

FEMA must have your application by the end of business that afternoon.

• Video Relay Service: 800-621-3362

What you’ll need when you apply:

- Social Security number, including your spouse

- private insurance information, if available

- address and zip code of the damaged property

- directions to the damaged home or property

- daytime telephone number and current mailing address

Even if you are unsure of your eligibility, or if you’re not sure if you intend on receiving assistance, it’s important to register with FEMA. By doing so, it lets FEMA know where damage occurred – which can be helpful in trying to prevent similar damage in the future.

If you don’t register by Dec. 14, you will not be eligible for any FEMA assistance, even if minor issues now grow into larger problems later.

In Montgomery County, so far there have been more than 3,200 registrations as a result of the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
