Harpist Packs Restaurant

Nora McGinnis has played Saturday night at Cutillo's in Sanatoga for nearly 30 years.

Nora McGinnis developed a huge following without even trying.

She doesn't use Facebook or promote herself on a website.

Her social network was built on time, experience and a great love of music.

For the last 28 years, McGinnis and her harp music have been a staple at Cutillo's Restaurant in Sanatoga.

McGinnis and her three older siblings were raised to appreciate music.

"Music was my father's life," she said and added that her parents, Ralph and Edith Brodt, owned a music store. McGinnis and her siblings inherited their parents' passion. "We were taught to perform and teach."

Everyone in the family plays more than one instrument, but she is the only one to master the harp, she said.

"It was unique and it was something no one else could do," McGinnis said of her reason to learn the instrument when she was 18 years old.

Although her father died, his spirit lives on through his children's music.

"It's a wonderful feeling," McGinnis said of playing the harp for others to enjoy.

McGinnis, her two brothers and their mom own and operate Nazareth Music Center in Nazareth, Pa. -- where McGinnis lives. The town is roughly 50 miles from Sanatoga but the gig is totally worth the drive time, she said.

"The Cutillo family has been very good to me," she said, adding she's humbled by her fans at the restaurant.

Marianne Scott, in catering and sales at , said McGinnis has been a popular draw at the restaurant for decades.

"We typically will book every table on our main level," she said of Saturday nights -- the only night of the week McGinnis plays at the restaurant.

"It's unique," Scott said of the harp music. "It's very conducive to a . . . special Saturday night out."
