New Liquor Control Board Chairman Supports Liquor Privatization

PA Gov. Tom Corbett also supports selling the state stores, saying it is a conflict of interest for Pennsylvania to both advertise sales and enforce liquor laws.

HARRISBURG — The new chairman of the Liquor Control Board personally supports selling the state stores, but he says he'll work to modernize the system until the Legislature makes that decision.

Republican Gov. Tom Corbett's appointee Joseph E. "Skip" Brion, an attorney and former chairman of the Chester County Republican Committee, told reporters after he was sworn in today that he is "a personal supporter of privatization." Until that moves forward, Brion said he will review the LCB's profitability at 621 stores and other issues affecting the agency and its 5,700 employees.
