Nonprofits To Get Behind In The Pottstown Area
There are many opportunities to help out at nonprofit agencies in the Pottstown area including the Schuylkill River Greenwood Association.

POTTSTOWN, PA — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Pottstown area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.
Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the POTTSTOWN area:
1. Schuylkill River Greenway Association: 140 College Drive, Pottstown. The nonprofit celebrates the Schuylkill River watershed as one of America's most significant cultural, historical, and industrial regions. The mission is to connect residents, visitors, and the community to the Schuylkill River. The association is hosting a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Auburn Bridge. An annual fundraiser art reception is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. More information is available here.

2. Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation: Helps people improve their health and well-being by providing grants to nonprofits. The foundation serves seven school districts including Pottsgrove, Pottstown, Spring-Ford, Daniel Boone, Owen J, Roberts, Periolmen Valley and Boyertown. The foundation awarded a $1.3 million grant for 43 projects in the Pottstown area. More information on the grant program is available here.
2. Good Will Steam Engine Company 1: 714 High St., Pottstown. The station has full-time and volunteer firefighters. The organization has been operating for 152 years. The company recently participated in a Red Cross Sound the Alarm Event. Crews installed smoke detectors in 38 homes and spoke with citizens about fire safety practices.

4. Pottstown Police Athletic League: 146 King St. Provides athletic programs and financial assistance for children. The league was created on Sept. 9, 1985. The programs include ice hockey, cheerleading, dek hockey, football, track, wrestling, lacrosse, and field hockey. There are lots of opportunities for coaching and volunteering.
5. Mosaic Community Land Trust: 724 N. Adams St., Pottstown. Mosaic uses the Community Land Trust model to increase the number of housing units, improve neighborhoods, and allow low-income homebuyers to own homes. Mosaic also provides fresh produce for low-income families, Mosaic Garden 423 Chesnut St. serves as a location for community meetings and a place to make friends.
6. Pottstown Area Economic Development: 152 E. High St., Pottstown. Pottstown Area Economic Development is a nonprofit to promote commercial development in Pottstown. The central business district features historical architecture, tree-lined streets, restaurants, and cultural organizations. It is about an hour northwest of Philadelphia at Route 422 and Route 100 in Montgomery County.
