Pottstown High School's DECA Club Names New Officers

DECA's goal is to improve education and provide opportunities for students interested in careers in marketing, management, and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality and marketing sales.

From Pottstown School District Director of Community Relations John J. Armato:

Recently, the Pottstown High School DECA Club -- an association of marketing students -- elected a new slate of officers and inducted 15 new members at a dinner ceremony held at the Pottstown High School cafeteria.  

The dinner was prepared and served by Pottstown High School culinary arts students under the direction of Chef Mary Jo Kuhwald.

Zach Haines was elected club president. His slate of officers includes vice president Lindsey Hayver and secretary and public relations officer Sierra Lee.         

The evening's ceremonies were conducted by DECA Advisor Kevin Pascal. Rick Huss, the district's school board president, recognized the outstanding efforts of the DECA organization and said, "Students who participate in DECA learn specific career technical skills, communication skills, human relations and employability skills."

Director of Career & Technical Education Danielle McCoy congratulated the organization for being one of the most energetic and active groups in the high school.  

She mentioned many projects that the DECA organization initiated including the student store and community service fund raising projects such as Relay For Life.            

Jennifer Mentzer, a Pottstown High School DECA alumni, provided the students with insight into the necessary skills and importance of self-confidence to be successful in the workplace.

Pottstown Supt. Reed D. Lindley encouraged students to live up to their DECA creed which states, "I believe in fulfilling the highest measure of service to my vocation, my fellow beings, my country and my God - that by doing so, I will become a more productive member of society."            

Member Megan Schmidt prepared a PowerPoint presentation which outlined the many activities of the Pottstown Chapter of DECA.           

DECA is an international association of high school and college students. The organization's goal is to improve education and provide opportunities for students interested in careers in marketing, management, and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales.  

DECA helps students to develop skills for successful business careers providing opportunities for students to build self-esteem, experience leadership and practice community service.

Newly inducted members included: Emily Griffin, Cameron Haines, Zach Haines, Tyler Hallenbeck, Tayla Haulcey-Clark, Lindsey Hayver, Sierra Lee, Quianna McEntosh, DaVenia McKim, Ryan McMahon, Amira Mohamed, Meyanni Nealy, Megan O'Donnell, Tatianna Robinson, Megan Schmidt and James Yoder.
