Pottstown Man Led Police On Chase With Kids In Car: Officials

POTTSTOWN, PA — A Pottstown man is being held at Cape May County jail after he allegedly led police on a chase with his three young children in the car.

On Friday, Cape May County Dispatch received a 911 call from Kristen Delano, who said her husband, Shane Delano, drove off with her three children, the Lower Township Police Department said in a news release. Dispatchers then learned that all of the children were younger than five and that Shane Delano may have a handgun.

Lower Township Patrol Officers located the vehicle within minutes and attempted a motor vehicle stop, but the driver refused to stop. A pursuit began, but it was later terminated on the Garden State Parkway over concerns for the safety of the occupants and other drivers, police said.

Personnel began tracking the vehicle remotely, and it was located in Rahway. Shane Delano was identified as its driver, and he was taken into custody after he was involved in a minor motor vehicle crash, police said.

The children were recovered safely by officers from the Rahway Police Department.

Shane Delano was charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, assault by auto and eluding, police said.

His wife, Kristen Delano, was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and was released on a summons, police said. She was found to be possessing a loaded handgun prior to being transported to the Lower Township Police Department headquarters to provide a statement.

On July 14, Shane Delano was arrested by Robeson Township, Montgomery County police following a one-vehicle crash there on charges stemming from his allegedly threatening to kill Reading Hospital staff members, their families and pets, news outlet Breaking AC reported.

He allegedly also threatened emergency personnel that responded to the scene of the crash and refused to submit to a blood test to find whether he was under the influence of narcotics, according to Breaking AC.
