ELECTION DAY COVERAGE:
7:44 p.m. As the election comes to an end, Andrew Kefer, a Pottstown school board candidate on the Democratic ticket, talks of his new political experience.
"As a first time candidate, I had fun," he said. "Running for office turned out to be ... relatively simple."
The campaign process helped him better connect with the community, he said.
"You have to get out and knock on doors and meet people," Kefer said. "This system is effective ... I've learned a lot."
7:33 p.m. Jennifer Zeleznick is at the to vote.
"Most people in this whole town don't know what candidates stand for," she said. "It's our responsibility. It's our duty as citizens (to vote.)"
7:12 p.m. So far, 151 of 1,095 registered voters came to the YWCA on King Street in Pottstown to vote. A few more voters continue to arrive.
6 p.m. Brigette Landis, 17, a Pottstown High School junior, is at the YWCA on King Street in Pottstown to help with the voting process.
She said she volunteered to help in order to learn more about voting.
"Next year I'll be voting," she said.
5:45 p.m. A steady but light flow of folks continue to arrive at the YWCA on King Street in Pottstown to vote.
Angela Cruz, 17, a senior at Pottstown High School, is here to help with the voting process.
"More people should come out and vote," she said.
Pottstown resident Andrew Krenzel agrees. His father -- the late Samuel Krenzel -- was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who fought for the nation's freedoms including the right to vote, he said.
"This is the way I was raised," Krenzel said of voting.
5:30 p.m. Voter turnout is light at the YWCA on King Street in Pottstown, said Montgomery County Republican Committee person Charles Kropp. He said he'd been at the polling location since 6:30 a.m. and now, with less than three hours of voting time left, only about 10 percent of the 1,095 registered voters showed up.
"That's probably a little bit higher than normal," said Kropp, a Pottstown resident. One reason for that might be the hot school board race, he said. "We've had so much debate over 10 years on what to do with the schools."
Andrew Kefer, a school board candidate on the Democratic ticket, is outside the YWCA to campaign.
"I was asked in March of this year to run," said Kefer - who is also a member of the Pottstown Planning Commission.
He said he had hoped for a better turnout at the polls.
"Truthfully, that's a pretty sad number," he said of the 10 percent voter turnout. "Voter apathy is a very frustrating thing."
Dan Weand, a member of the Pottstown Borough Council, stopped by the YWCA to check in on the poll a short time ago.
"I've been watching all 10 (borough polling locations,)" he said. "I had hoped ... for a better turnout."
Weand said he hopes more folks will vote in the time left.
"Our ancestors left Europe for that privilege," he said of voting.
3:30 p.m. Voter turnout is starting to pick up at the Lower Pottsgrove Township administration building, said Patricia Foltz while she campaigned for her husband Bruce - a candidate running on Republican and Democratic tickets for the municipality's board of commissioners.
Patricia Foltz said she voted earlier today at Berean Bible Church.
"They were lined up," she said of voters at the church around 11 a.m.
Lower Pottsgrove resident Joyce Davie is at the administration building and talks of her reason to vote.
"It makes a difference," she said and added she voted "straight Democrat."
