Rupert Elementary Partners Music, Fitness

From Pottstown School District Director of Community Relations John J. Armato:

Rupert students and staff worked out to the music of Aaron Christ and Dustin Tavella from “A Fresh Start Fitness.” 

The entire student body took part in the exciting upbeat, high energy assembly called “DRYVE Fit.”  The assembly consisted of three parts:

Exercise 

• Students were lead in workouts choreographed to live music.

• Exercises included push-ups, jumping jacks and squats.

• Original music was uptempo with child-friendly lyrics written by Dustin Tavella.

Teaching

• Between songs students were taught how to make healthy decisions dealing with eating and exercise.

• Lessons included too much sugar is bad for your body and can lead to disease; fun games like basketball and soccer are great ways to exercise; it’s important to get about an hour of exercise every day.

Incorporating School Rules

• All of the lessons incorporate Rupert’s 3 PBS rules: BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE A PROBLEM SOLVER.

Rupert Principal Matt Moyer was an active participant and commended Aaron and Dustin on one of the finest assemblies that the school has had that concentrates on physical fitness, self-esteem, and wellness. 

In addition to the high energy exercise, students were challenged to answer nutrition questions about various food groups.

Seven members of the Pottstown High School Key Club, sponsored by Dennis Arms, helped spruce up the exterior of the Pottstown Elks Lodge #814 on November 6.

Students painted exterior windows and cleaned flowerbeds. 

Evan Downie, Key Club vice president, coordinated the efforts of members Jasheel Brown, Nicole Grassi, Josh Hartman, Robbie McCoy, Tiffany Ullman and Jade Yingling.  

The Elks Lodge treated students to soda, pizza, and games after the project was completed.  

Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership skills.
