Shades of Pottstown

After too many rainy days, sunglasses are back and cooler than ever.

Brian Missimer of Pottstown was happy to finally get outside and work in the sunshine.

On Wednesday, Missimer donned his favorite sunglasses and cleaned Pottstown's clock tower on High Street.

"I got them down at the shore," he said of his cool black shades. "It's nice that it's warm out and sunny."

Indeed. Pottstown has been soaked with nearly double the amount of rain typical for this time of year, said Tom Kines, senior meteorologist for AccuWeather.com.

Roughly six and a half inches pounded the area in April, Kines said today.

“I can tell you that’s well above normal,” he said and added that the area received nearly four inches of rain so far in May.

So, why all the water?

“We’ve had some very slow moving weather systems,” he said. “There has been a significant change in weather patterns.”

That change will continue and result in more unseasonable weather, Kines said.

“It’s actually gonna feel like summer in the next couple days,” he said.

Tomorrow and Saturday will bring 80-degree temperatures with a chance for more scattered storms, Kines said.

Temperatures Sunday and Monday could go over 90 degrees.

“In general, it ought to be . . . quite humid,” he said of the upcoming holiday. In terms of weather, Memorial Day “will feel more like July fourth.”
