1st Ever Dog Day Of Summer Dog Event Coming To Manayunk Aug 26
There will be pet adoptions, a dog talent show, raffles, food, and more at the first ever Dog Day of Summer event in Manayunk.

MANAYUNK, PHILADELPHIA – Manayunk is a very dog-friendly neighborhood in Philadelphia. On any give day you will find numerous residents walking their pups on the streets.
And now Manayunk.com is bringing a brand-new, dog-focused event to the Venice Island Amphitheater on Aug. 26.
The first-ever Dog Day of Summer will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26 at the amphitheater, located at 7 Lock St.

The day will bring pet-friendly vendors, activities, pet adoptions, food vendors, raffles, and even a pet talent show to the amphitheater.
"Manayunk is super pet-friendly – with our neighborhood dog park, our many options for outdoor dining, and even a bakery just for dogs and cats," said Megan Douress, Manayunk Development Corporation’s Director of Marketing & Events. "We thought it was about time we celebrate our four-legged residents here in Manayunk, and what better day to do it than August 26, the National Day of the Dog?"

Local rescues Brandywine Valley SPCA, Saved Me Animal Rescue, Salfid Rescue, Inc, and Home at Last Dog Rescue will be on hand with pets ready to find their permanent homes.
Many Manayunk businesses will be participating in the event, including Pet Friendly Dog Bakery, City of Paws Pet Care, Scallywags Dog Daycare, Regal Beagle, Manayunk Pooch Scoochers & Co, and Walk This Way Dog Walking and Pet Sitting.
Other businesses joining the furry fun include the Wissahickon Creek Veterinary Hospital in Roxborough, Opportunity Barks in East Falls, and Piggyback Treats. Many participating businesses and groups will be selling pet-friendly goodies or hosting activities, such as pawdicures and a kissing booth.
Other pet-friendly activities at Dog Day of Summer include a photo booth with Alexa Nahas Photography and a "beer chugging" contest, where canine participants will compete against each other to see who can down a bowl of chicken broth the fastest.
Tito’s Vodka will be sponsoring a weekend-long "yappy hour" at participating restaurants, where a portion of drink proceeds will go to the beneficiary.
The event will raise money for the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Canine Cancer Foundation, which will also have a presence at the event.
The mission of the foundation is to eliminate cancer in dogs through education, outreach, and research.
"It’s going to be a really fun day for both pets and their owners," Douress said. "We invite everyone to come to the event, even families who don’t have a dog. Who knows, they may end up going home with one!"
