5 Roxborough, Manayunk Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

With the giving season nearly here, Patch readers should check out some of these local non-profit groups while considering local donations.

ROXBOROUGH-MANAYUNK, PA — If you’re like many of your Roxborough- and Manayunk-area neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Roxborough and Manayunk areas.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. North Light Community Center — The North Light Community Center empowers people of all ages and abilities in our communities, especially those most in need, to reach their fullest potential as productive and responsible citizens through initiatives that support and enrich children, teens, and families.
  2. The Table Food Pantry — The Table Food Pantry provides food assistance to all those with need in the Roxborough Community, with most participants being seniors, at-risk, and low-income families.
  3. Ridge Park Civic Association — The association supports community interests of residents between Henry Avenue and the Schuylkill River, from Hermitage Street to Harmon Road, Canton and Umbria Streets to Leverington Avenue.
  4. Alliance of Community Service Providers — The alliance provides service to children and adults with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and/or intellectual disabilities.
  5. Roxborough Development Corporation — The RDC focuses on promoting special events, beautifying and cleaning Ridge Avenue, and helping existing business expand while recruiting new ones.
