Concert at the Grape Room: The band Empire Circus will play a show at Manayunk's The Grape Room on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 8 p.m. Here's how the band describes themselves: "Empire Circus are a four piece Alt Pop outfit who have tapped into the panache of Two Door Cinema Club, the demeanor of Arcade Fire and the general cool suave of Gorillaz… then morphed out at the other side with a resonant sound under the guise of Empire Circus."
Thrill Show Tickets: Tickets are still available for the Philadelphia Police Department's annual Thrill Show. All proceeds from the show go towards scholarships for the children of fallen city police officers and firefighters.
This day in history: August 14, is V-J Day. The Japanese surrendered to allied forces on Aug. 14, 1945, ending World War II after the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese cites of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
