Holiday Season In Manayunk Kicks Off Thursday With Tree Lighting

MANAYUNK, PHILADELPHIA — This Thursday, the Manayunk community is invited to usher in the holiday season with Santa, Elsa, and more at the annual tree lighting event.

The tree lighting event will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Canal View Park.

Fun kicks off with Saint Joseph's University's City Belles a cappella group. Then, local singer-songwriter Maggie Mae will perform at 6 p.m. and Koser will perform at 6:30 p.m.

The tree lighting will take place at 7 p.m.

Santa Claus and Elsa will be making rounds, greeting attendees.

Attendees will also be able to write letters to Santa.

Thursday also marks the launch of the fourth annual Manayunk Gets LIT decorating competition between 50-plus businesses in the district.

Manayunk businesses will be decking their storefronts, windows, roofs, and more. Community members will then have a chance to chose who should win Most Creative, Most LIT and Best Overall. Voting will run Thursday, Nov. 16 through Thursday, Dec. 14.

All voters will be entered for their chance to win a $200 shopping spree.
