Capolupo Named Finalist for National Superintendent of the Year
Superintendent James P. Capolupo has been named a Finalist for the 2013 National Superintendent of the Year by the National Association of School Superintendents.

James P. Capolupo, Superintendent of the Springfield School District, has been named a Finalist for the 2013 National Superintendent of the Year by the National Association of School Superintendents (NASS).
Selection Panel Chairperson Patricia Beaver described Capolupo as a “model of uncompromising dedication to literacy and academic achievement.” According to a news release, Beaver said Capolupo is passionate about providing quality schools and the importance of connecting “school to home”.
Every school in the Springfield District has achieved Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) 7 years in a row, according to the release.

NASS Executive Director Dr. Theresa Daem is quoted as saying that Capolupo represents what educational leaders need to be today.
"It is clear that our country's educational system faces tremendous challenges and is in need of dynamic and continuously improving leadership," she said. “The real answer is leveraging the collective know-how of stellar district superintendents like Dr. Capolupo. We are very proud to have him as an active member, and we are anticipating many valuable contributions to the profession,” she added.

The recognition is based on three primary criteria, according to the release:
* Outstanding achievement as a school district superintendent,
* Demonstrated belief in continuous improvement, and
* Commitment to collaboration and mutual support in the profession.
Capolupo is up against finalists from California, Colorado and Georgia.
