Help Patch Honor Local WWII Vets

In honor of a new movie getting a special showing this week, tell us about your WWII Vet.

 

According to the documentary film Honor Flight World War II veterans are now dying at the rate of 1,000 per day. The movie, which documents efforts to help as many World War II Veterans as possible visit the WWII Memorial in Washington. will be screened next week in Delaware County.

The Philadelphia area group that sponsors these trips was started in 2011 by Springfield resident Andrew Schiavello. Its next trip is May 25 and will leave from Saint Luke's Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall.

Because of the proximity Delco vets usually go by ground transportation rather than actual flights, but the significance of the trips is every bit as profound.

Each veteran is accompanied by a volunteer who travels to Washington. It is a chance for a grateful generation to say thanks to the soldiers of what has been dubbed "The Greatest Generation."
