Hotel Developer Answers Union Critics

The developer of the new Courtyard by Marriott at the Springfield Country Club comments on pickets who say there aren't enough union workers on the project.

 

During a wide ranging interview about the future of the new Courtyard by Marriott hotel at the Springfiel Country Club, developer Pat Burns adressed concerns of union picketers who have set up signs on Sproul Road saying he is "destroying area wages and standards"

A report in Sunday's Delaware County Times says the Delaware County Democrats have moved their spring dinner from the Country Club to Drexelbrook in Drexel Hill in a show of solidarity with the unions.

In an interview with Patch recorded on March 14 developer Pat Burns told Patch that the hotel construction job is staffed by about 35% non-union and 65% union workers.

Burns says the the hotel is scheduled to open in August. 

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story reversed the number of union and non-union workers on this project. According to the developer the construction project is staffed by about 65% union and 35% non-union workers. Patch regrets the error.
