Popular Landmark Restaurant Hit By Fire

The restaurant was packed when fire broke out on Saturday afternoon.

 

One manager says there were about 75 people inside Nifty Fifty's on McDade Boulevard in Folsom when fire broke out inside a wall behind a video game machine around 4 p.m. Saturday.

No one was injured the fire which forced the packed restaurant to be evacuated and closed overnight.

Manager Eric Marchol tells Patch workers started smelling smoke and while  managers started searching for the source, the general manager began immediately evacuating the burger, fries and shakes restaurant.

Crews worked through the night to fix the problems and patch up a wall in the rear of the restaurant near the front door. The restaurant was re-opened before noon on Sunday.

The fire did not damage the kitchen or dining room.

Nifty Fifty's posted a notice on the Springfield Patch Facebook wall around 11 Sunday morning updating customers on the situation.

We will be OPEN at 12 noon TODAY!! All the inspections have been done and we are excited to open our doors today.Thank you again to all the firefighters and inspectors that helped us so quickly! We would also like to thank our employees, family and friends that worked overnight to make sure we could open our doors TODAY!

By 1:30 p.m. Sunday, the place was packed as usual and there was a short waiting line. Meanwhile, crews were working on fixing the damage to the wall and installing new insulation where the fire occured.
