Sunday Fire in Springfield Involves 4 Depts.

Battalion Chief describes fire scene to Springfield Patch.

First you could hear the sirens then you could see the black smoke billowing briefly from the back of a house in the 800 block of West Rolling Road a little after 5 p.m. Sunday.

One neighbor told Patch he thought someone was cooking on the grill until the smoke rising from the back of his nearby neighbor's house turned a heavy black.

It didn't take long for first responders to race to the street and prevent the fire from spreading. Firefighters who arrived told the 9-1-1 dispatcher there was heavy smoke showing as the first engines from Springfield Fire Co. 44 rolled up to the house.

In addition to Springfield, Manoa Fire Co. and two medics raced to the fire scene.

Once the fire was fully extinguished and as an ambulance from Media and a paramedic from Riddle Hospital stood by in case of any medical concerns among the residents of the house or firefighters, Springfield Batallion Chief Keith Thomas had a chance to brief Springfield Patch on what happened.
