Paoli SEPTA Station Fire: Latest Updates

A train car fire broke out at the Paoli SEPTA station late Tuesday night, injuring a SEPTA employee and a firefighter.

PAOLI, PA — A SEPTA Paoli-Thorndale Regional Rail Line train car caught fire late Tuesday night in Paoli, injuring two people, according to officials.

SEPTA said the incident occurred at about 11 p.m. Tuesday when the crew noticed smoke in a train heading outboard to Malvern at the Paoli station.

No passengers were on the train.

The crew evacuated the train, and smoke and flames spread, leading the last train car to become fully engulfed in fire, according to SEPTA.

We were able to tow the train out at about 2 a.m., and then Amtrak performed inspections of the track, overhead power lines and other infrastructure. Everything was deemed safe for travel at about 4 a.m., and regularly scheduled service ran this morning.

The Malvern Fire Company said it was called to the Paoli Station at about 11 p.m. to aid the Paoli Fire Company with a train car fire.

When firefighters showed up, they found a working fire involving a SEPTA Regional Rail train car.

More than 70 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, which was out by about midnight, according to Fox 29.

A SEPTA employee was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation and a firefighter was treated at the scene for an unknown injury, Action News reports.

The train was towed away at about 2 a.m., then Amtrak performed inspections of the track, overhead power lines and other infrastructure.

The situation was deemed safe, and SEPTA at about 4:30 a.m. said service on the Paoli-Thorndale Line has returned to normal.

An investigation into the fire is underway.
