Berwyn Fire Co Station Seeking $500K In Federal Funds For New Station

The Berwyn Fire Company is getting a new station, and this month is requesting the release of $500,000 in HUD funds for the project.

BERWYN, PA — As the Berwyn Fire Company works toward constructing and opening a new fire station, Easttown Township is clearing the company to request federal funding to assist with the costs.

The township later this month will authorize the fire company to submit a request to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the release of FY 2024 EDI Community Project Funds under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, Public Law 93-383.

Officials said the whole construction project will cost $10.5 million.

The fire company is seeking $500,000 in HUD funding.

Members of the public can also object to the release of the funds.

HUD will accept these objections, as well as objections to Easttown Township’s environmental certification, for 15 days after the anticipated submission date or its actual receipt of the request. Potential objectors should contact HUD to verify the actual last day of the objection period.

Objections will be considered only if they are on one of the following bases:

  • the certification was not executed by the Certifying Officer of Easttown Township;
  • Easttown Township omitted a step or failed to make a decision or finding required by HUD regulations at 24 CFR part 58;
  • the grant recipient or other participants in the development process have committed funds, incurred costs or undertaken activities not authorized by 24 CFR Part 58 before approval of a release of funds by HUD;
  • or another Federal agency acting pursuant to 40 CFR Part 1504 has submitted a written finding that the project is unsatisfactory from the standpoint of environmental quality.

Objections must be prepared and submitted in accordance with the required procedures (24 CFR Part 58, Sec. 58.76) and must be addressed to the Philadelphia Office of Community Planning and Development at CPDRROFPHI@hud.gov.

The fire company is planning a dedication of its new fire house at 1 p.m. Sept. 27 at 23 Bridge Ave. in Berwyn.
