Cause of Devon Fire Reported by Fire Marshal

The Berwyn Fire Company website reports that the cause of a devastating house fire Sunday night was a problem in the fireplace.

A report on the fire company's website reads: "According to the Chester County Fire Marshal, it was determined that there was degradation in the fire box, which allowed heat to transfer into the mantle after a fire had been lit in the fireplace earlier in the evening."

Fire officials say the blaze caused $300,000 in damages to the home on Devonshire Road in Devon.
