Multiple PA Companies Among Nation's Most Iconic: Time

PENNSYLVANIA — To commemorate the nation's 250th birthday this year, Time magazine has released a list of its 250 most iconic companies in the country.

Pennsylvania is well-represented on the list.

"Time and Statista conducted a nationally representative survey of U.S. residents to rank the 250 American companies that are not only commercially successful, but have played a vital role in shaping culture and society," the Time report stated.

According to Time, the nation's most iconic company is Ford. Founded in 1903 by Henry Ford, the company sells autos and commercial vehicles under the Ford brand and luxury cars under the Lincoln brand.

Six Pennsylvania companies made the list. Here they are along with their rankings:

Hershey (14): Founded in 1894 by Milton Hershey, Hershey is one of the world's largest chocolate manufacturers. Additionally, the company runs Hersheypark, Hershey's Chocolate World, the Milton Hershey School, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, The M.S. Hershey Foundation and Hershey Trust Company.

Kraft Heinz (30): The Pittsburgh-based company is the third-largest food and beverage company in North America and the fifth-largest food and beverage company in the world, with eight $1 billion-plus brands.

Air Products & Chemicals (72): Based in the Lehigh Valley, this international company sells gases and chemicals for industrial use.

Comcast (112): Headquartered in Philadelphia, Comcast is a multinational mass media, telecommunications and entertainment conglomerate whose vast holdings include the Xfinity cable service and phone provider; NBC/Universal and the Universal Pictures, DreamWorks, Animation, Illumination and Focus Features film studios.

Dick's Sporting Goods (164): The Pittsburgh-based company is the largest sporting goods retailer in the United States. It expanded its international presence last September when it completed its acquisition of the Foot Locker chain of stores.

United States Steel (226): Also based in Pittsburgh, the company produces and sells steel products such as flat-rolled and tubular products for customers in industries across automotive, construction, consumer, electrical, industrial equipment, distribution and energy. Its also operates iron ore and coke production facilities.
