Conestoga Crew’s Boys Varsity Double (2x), rowed by Hudson Miller and Jack Sauder, earned a coveted bid to the 2025 USRowing Youth National Championships after a strong performance at the Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

Miller, a senior and four-year member of Conestoga Crew, will row for Colgate University next year, joins a growing list of Conestoga alumni continuing their rowing careers at the collegiate level. Sauder, a rising senior and one of next year’s team captains, has teamed up with Miller to form one of the region’s top sculling pairs this spring. The duo captured first place at four Manny Flick regattas, finished second at the Philadelphia City Championships, and placed third at the Steve Neczypor Regatta.

Their Mid-Atlantic finish secured one of only a handful of qualifying spots for the double sculls event at Youth Nationals, which will take place June 12–15 in Sarasota, Florida. The 2025 USRowing Youth National Championships marks the 30th anniversary of the event, now considered one of the premier youth sporting competitions in the country. Held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida, the four-day regatta attracts more than 5,000 spectators.

“This was a goal from the beginning of the season,” said Miller. “We’ve worked really hard to get here, and it feels great to represent Conestoga at the national level.”

“I’m so excited to see the culmination of Hudson and Jack’s season’s worth of work—they’re highly motivated and introspective athletes who have worked hard and consistently all season to find that next level of speed with every race opportunity,” said Coach Bailey Chick, a former Temple University rower who joined Conestoga this season and brings years of successful coaching experience to the team. “They have really earned the opportunity to put all that work to the test in Florida,” she added.

Sauder echoed that sentiment, crediting the team’s culture and long hours on the water. “We’ve been building toward this moment all year,” he said. “I’m proud of what we’ve done together and excited to race against the best double sculling crews in the country.”

The pair will continue training daily on the Schuylkill River out of Philadelphia’s iconic Boathouse Row before heading to Florida to represent their team on the national stage.
