Easttown Wants to Double Parking Fines

Parking during the Devon Horse Show is the motive behind the move.

If you get caught parking in a no parking zone in Easttown the ticket will cost you $25. There aren't many no parking zones, except around the Devon Horse Show grounds. This week the Easttwn Board of Supervisors began the process of doubling the parking fine to $50.

The reason is simple. With some off street parking rates near the show not much lower than the fine, many drivers figure it's worth the risk. Easttown does not currently tow parking violators, making it a simple matter of money. So now the Easttown Board of Supervisors wants to double the sting of the fine to $50.

Under the proposed ordinance, fines would also double in temporary no parking zones.

The Board of Supervisors voted Monday night to advertise a public hearing on the ordinance. That hearing could be held as soon as the board's next meeting on August 15th.
