Excessive Heat Warning Extended Until Saturday Night
As the region bakes, the National Weather Service extends and earlier warning by 24 hours.
The National Weather Service has extended an excessive heat warning from Friday at 8 p.m. until Saturday at 8 p.m..
The heat index (what the combination of heat and humidity actally feel like) could reach as high 110 degrees on Saturday afternoon, the weather service warns. The weather service issued a similar warning Tuesday that was to expire Friday but said at the time that it could be extended in Saturday if conditions warranted.
Those who remain outdoors for more than a short period of time could suffer from heat-related illnesses. The NWS recommends drinking plenty of water, staying in air-conditioned locations and checking on elderly relatives and neighbors as a precaution during the excessive heat.

The warning adds that anyone who might be outdoors for a long period of time should schedule frequent rest breaks in cool and shaded areas.
