Police Rule on Cause of Tot Lot Fire in Mazie B. Hall Park

Police now have a ruling on the cause.

say a fire that destroyed the tot lot playground at Mazie B. Hall Park in Wayne Monday night has been ruled accidental.

The fire was reported at 11:46 Monday night in the park in the 1000 block of Upper Gulph Road in the Mount Pleasant Section of Wayne. Police say the equipment was totally dedtroyed by the fire.

A police report put the value of the tot lot loss at $60,000 but that is an early, initial estimate. Tredyffrin Township Manager Mimi Gleason tells Patch the playground is insured. She says the township is working with the insurance company to arrive at a more precise damage total. Gleason says that process is underway, but there is no time estimate yet on when a settlement will be reached.

Until the insurance adjustment work is completed the township manager can't give an accurate estimate on a timeline for rebuilding the tot lot.

With just 2.3 acres of land, Mazie B. Hall is Tredyffrin Township's third smallest park. It features 2 basketball courts, a walking path, baseball field, picnic area, and the tot lot playground.
