Flood Watch Declared By Chester County Emergency Management Services

Motorists are asked to use caution when driving on roadways and to avoid I-95 North.

CHESTER COUNTY – Chester County Department of Emergency Services declared a flood watch today, advising motorists to use caution on roadways.

Motorists are asked to avoid Interstate 95 and areas north and west of the corridor.

The flood watch is in effect until 6 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Services.

Forecasters predict 2 to 3 inches of rain, causing severe flooding.

Some local municipalities are in the process of implementing stormwater management plans to help with flooding issues during the tropical storm season.

A year ago, Hurricanes Ida and Fred resulted in more than 12 inches of rain falling in Chester County. Homes and businesses were destroyed and five people died.

The rainfall is expected to help with drought conditions.

By example, Trout Creek, which winds through Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, into Upper Merion, Montgomery County,was completely dry in some areas this summer.

Longtime residents noted it had not been dry for over three decades.
