In Case of Fire: Read This.

More than 360,000 house fires were reported in the U.S. in 2009. Here are some important things that can help keep your home from becoming a fire statistic.

This is National Fire Prevention week and it's a good time to take a few minutes to check around your home for potential hazzards and to make a plan in case of fire.

has posted an article on the most common causes of home fires on its website that is worth your time and just may save your life. As the temperatures drop, especially overnight it's important to remember to keep space heaters at least three feet away from flamable materials like bed linens and comforters.  If you or a child tend to kick off the covers at night, be very careful to keep any heat source away from areas where bed linens can land on the floor.

The Berwyn Fire Company article offers these suggestions to help prevent fire before it starts.

•Replace or repair damaged or loose electrical cords.

•If you smoke, smoke outside.

•Use deep, wide ashtrays on a sturdy table.

•Blow out all candles when you leave the room or go to bed. Avoid the use of candles in the bedroom and other areas where people may fall asleep.
