National Merit Honors Local Students
Schools around the region are applauding their students for being named Semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation honored more than 200 local students among approximately 16,000 national semifinalists in its 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.
To qualify, about 1.5 million juniors took the Preliminary sat/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test during the last school year. The number of semifinalists in Pennsylvania is proportional to the Keystone State’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
Those honored as semifinalists are the highest scoring students in Pennsylvania.
Semifinalists must submit a detailed application to become a finalist. National Merit scholars are selected from the list of finalists.
Below is a list of local schools and how many National Merit Semifinalists were honored from each school. The National Merit Scholarship Program cautions against making comparisons between high schools or educational systems based on these numbers.
“The program does not measure the quality or effectiveness of education within a school, system, or state,” according to its press release.
Congratulations to all the semifinalists.
