Local Grads Grill PSU President on JoePa

Hundreds of Penn State graduates from Tredyffrin, Easttown, The Upper Main Line and throughout the greater Philadelphia region packed a meeting room at the Radisson in King of Prussia Thursday night to vent their frustrations over the child sex abuse scandal and the firing of Penn State Football Coach Joe Paterno.

Newly appointed Penn State President Rodney Erickson told the crowd that he was not at the Board of Trustees meeting when the decision to fire Paterno as head coach was made. He encouraged alumni in the crowd to question board members and ask "hard questions".

An article on Philly.com quotes Bob Fiori, a 1979 Penn State grad who lives in Berwyn who voiced a frustration shared by many. "The board of trustees needs to come out and be more clear about some of the reasons they handled Joe Paterno the way they did," Fiori told Philly.com.

The Philly.com article quotes Barbara Berger, a 1980 graduate from Devon as saying the trustees should hold their own meeting with alumni. "It would have been more satisfying if a member of the board were here tonight," she told Philly.com.

After the meeting one graduate at the meeting told 6ABC Action News she won't send money the next time fundraisers call.

While Erickson was meeting with about 650 alumni in one room of the hotel, former NFL star and Penn State alum Franco Harris was meeting in another room to continue his media campaign assailing the way the university handled Paterno.
