Tredyffrin Teens Hope For Bike Skills/Pump Track
The pump track is the latest trend for outdoor biking enthusiasts.
TREDYFFRIN —Tredyffrin Township teens are hoping to construct a Bike Skills/Pump Track on the township’s Mill Road composting site.
Students Dominick “Dom” Pecora, an eighth-grader at Valley Forge Middle School, and Ronan Lynch, a freshman at Conestoga High School, presented a preliminary proposal to the township's Parks and Recreation Board in July. The board did not meet in August.
The project is expected to be discussed again at the board’s meeting on Sept. 14.

Arthur Zodrozny, a township resident in the Chesterbrook development, is helping the teens with the project.
Zodrozny said the compost site is a great location for the park, noting that the location is close to the housing developments in Chesterbrook. The hope is to construct the track on a half to one-acre.

Zodrozny said that the board wanted additional details about the project.
“These boys are very self-reliant,” he said, noting the boys would help to organize fundraising events for the project.
He said the boys had been building tracks on the trails at Chesterbook, but have stopped after learning that the trails were not intended for that purpose.
Plans for pump tracks are in the works at Phoenixville and Malvern boroughs.
What is a Pump Track?
The track is trending in public sports facilities, serving people of all ages and all abilities with an easy to learn skill on a half to one-acre track.
Bikers use an up-and-down pumping motion to propel the bike forward instead of pedaling like traditional biking.
The teens provided these reasons for the township to proceed with the project:
- Provides independence with peers from structured organized activities.
- Gets kids off their screens and devices.
- Allows riders to meet friends with similar interests.
- Builds grit, resilience, and physical stamina.
