Shooting In Montco Leads To Charges Against Philly Man

A Philadelphia man was arrested in connection with the non-fatal shooting in Upper Dublin Township.

UPPER DUBLIN, PA — A Philadelphia man has been charged with attempted homicide following a shooting outside of a home in this eastern Montgomery County community late last week.

Upper Dublin Township Police arrested 32-year-old Tyrell Dixon, of Philadelphia, following the incident on Nov. 11 at around 8:30 a.m. on the 3100 block of Walnut Avenue in the North Hills section of the township.

Police said officers were dispatched to a home for a reported shooting, and when they arrived at the scene, they found a 26-year-old man in the street who had been shot twice, once in the arm and once in the leg.

The victim was taken to Jefferson Abington Hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening injuries, and he was later released, police said.

After the shooting, Dixon fled into a nearby home at the end of the block where he hid out without the owner's permission, police said.

Members of the East Region of the Montgomery County SWAT Team were called in to assist, and they eventually took Dixon into custody without incident, according to police.

Court records show Dixon was arraigned the following day by Magisterial District Court Judge Deborah Lukens.

The docket sheet in the case shows he was charged with attempted murder of the first degree; felony counts of aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license; and a host of additional misdemeanor charges.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled Nov. 25.

Records show Dixon was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of posting $500,000 bail.

Police have not released a possible motive behind the shooting.
