Bear Captured In Montco Is Unharmed, Will Be Relocated

The bear weighed in at 255 pounds and is about three years old, the Game Commission said.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — The black bear that was captured in Montgomery County Wednesday night after wandering through the densely human-populated suburbs was not harmed, officials said in an update on Thursday.

PA Game Commission officials will relocate him to another more wilder part of the state with a more established bear population.

Authorities described the bear as "healthy and not harmed" after his foray into the greater Philadelphia area. He is estimated to be about three years old, and weighed in at 255 pounds. That's about an average weight for an adult black bear, though some males regularly get up to around 400 pounds.
