Congregation Kol Ami to host Combating Anti-Semitism Through Sport

A conversation with Jewish Black American-Israeli Professional Basketball Player Jared Armstrong

Jared Armstrong, a Jewish, Black American-Israeli professional basketball player, will give a presentation titled, Combating Anti-Semitism Through Sport at Congregation Kol Ami on Friday, November 17, following shabbat services, which begin at 7:30 p.m. Congregation Kol Ami is located at 8231 Old York Road, on the Beth Sholom campus, in Elkins Park, PA. Armstrong, who currently plays professional basketball in Israel for team Elizur Ashkelon team, uses his expertise in sports, public advocacy and education, as well as his platform at the intersection of the Black and American Jewish experience, to speak out against racism and antisemitism. He does this through public speaking and education.

In particular, Armstrong’s work with his Jared Armstrong Basketball (JAB) Camp teaches not only the fundamentals of basketball, but also the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship, fostering a sense of unity and mutual respect among youth from all different religious and ethnic backgrounds. His goal is to combat antisemitism, racism, discrimination through sports.

About Jared Armstrong
Jared Armstrong is a Philadelphia native and a Jewish Black American-Israeli professional basketball player, who currently plays in Israel for team Elizur Ashkelon. He utilizes his personal experience as a Black American Jew, as well as his expertise in sports, public advocacy and education to speak out against racism and antisemitism.

In 2023, Armstrong started Jared Armstrong Basketball (JAB) Camp, (https://www.jaredarmstrong.net/jab-camp) a Philadelphia-based basketball camp bringing together Black and Jewish youth with the aim of teaching hard work, pluralism and unity through diversity.
