According to a report in the Mercury newspaper, confidential sources had told investigators that Morton was cooking up crack cocaine in his city apartment and that they believed Morton to be the source of drugs being sold in the North Hills section of Upper Dublin Township.

The story says that undercover investigators subsequently engaged in police-supervised controlled buys of crack cocaine from Morton between August 2018 and March 2019 in nearby Upper Moreland Township and also inside Morton's Philadelphia residence.

Police ultimately obtained a warrant to search the home and came up with drugs and related items used in connection with drug manufacturing.

Records show that Morton entered his open guilty plea to the charges on Aug. 4, 2021.

The Mercury report says that the investigation into Morton's activities was conducted by a regional law enforcement team made up of investigators from the Montgomery County Detective Bureau's Narcotics Enforcement Team as well as police from local departments such as Upper Moreland, Upper Dublin and Abington.

Also assisting in the investigation were members of the Montgomery County District Attorney's Local Drug Task Force and members of the Philadelphia Police Department's Narcotics Unit.
