In light of the rarity of such calls, Nestel said that UMPD consulted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s department in order to create a safety zone for residents and passersby.

Shortly after, a Montgomery County Bomb Squad vehicle arrived on scene, and by 1:50 p.m., all officers were preparing to leave the property without further incident.
While initial reports cited the explosive device to be a grenade, Nestel said that the explosive device was non-lethal.
The property owner did not appear to be home at the time. More details about the reported explosive device and how it got on the property are expected to be released in the coming days by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office.
