Resolve to Save Lives in 2025! Join Upper Moreland Twp. Fire Dept.

Willow Grove, PA – Tired of making and breaking the same old New Year’s resolutions year after year? Improve your life by protecting the lives of others as an Upper Moreland Township Fire Department volunteer firefighter.

“Become an Upper Moreland Township volunteer firefighter and you’ll learn the skills it takes to fight fires and save lives,” said Fire Chief Ed Glassman. “You’ll challenge yourself mentally and physically at every training drill and emergency scene. You’ll also build the closest friendships you’ve ever had.”

Training and gear are free to Upper Moreland volunteers and no experience is necessary, but even the department’s most seasoned veterans never stop learning. “In a township like ours, with single-family homes, apartment buildings, senior housing, medical facilities, open space, commercial enterprises, passenger rail, and major roadways, we have to be prepared for anything,” Glassman said. “It’s all part of what makes Upper Moreland an exciting place to be a firefighter.”

While no one is expected to respond to every emergency, Upper Moreland Firefighters are never bored. They are on track to respond to about 1,300 calls by the end of 2024 and provide mutual aid to seven other fire departments: Abington, Upper Dublin, Hatboro, Horsham, Lower
Moreland, Fort Washington, and Bryn Athryn.

There’s nothing like the adrenaline rush of gearing up and riding a sirens-blaring, lights-flashing fire truck toward an emergency scene, knowing you have all the skills you need to make a difference. “There is no greater reward than helping others on their worst day,” Glassman said.
