“Work your core to help your lower back”. We hear this all the time but what is that all about? So sit-ups will make my back better?? Well no, but people seem to think this because when we hear core we think abs. The core consists of many muscles, the obliques, transverse abdominals, and quadratus lumborum to name a few. The abdominals actually pull and bend the spine forward doing the opposite of lower back work. Making them stronger won’t help the back get stronger or feel better. The other core muscles like the obliques which are on the sides along with the transverse abdominals help you to reach over and pick things up which takes some of the pressure off a weak lower back. Bending over to the side is easier with strong quadratus lumborum muscles which means less chance of pulling something in the back. It’s really all these other muscles that need to be worked to “build the core” to help your lower back , not ab work. #backpain #backinjury #physicaltherapy #personaltrainer #gymrat #gymlover #workout #workoutgoals #fitness #fitnessgirl #fitnessjourney #haddonfield #waynepa #planetfitness #strength #cardio #core #abs #planks #muscle #toning #healthy #healthylifestyle
