Full Slate Of Free (And Fun) Events In May At Southampton Library
A free notary service event, 2 escape room programs, SAT practice...there is SO much going on this spring at the Southampton Free Library!

There is a lot going on this spring at the Southampton Free Library.

- Story Hour, Tuesdays, Apr. 24th – Jun. 5th and Fridays, Apr. 27th – Jun. 8th @ 10:30 AM - Children will sing songs, listen to stories, create crafts, and play with educational toys. All ages welcome and this is a walk-in program.
- Teen Board Game Club, Tuesdays, May 1st, 8th, 22nd & 29th, 5-6 P.M. -Come socialize and play fun, challenging board games with your friends. Walk-ins welcome.
- May 2nd, 4:30 PM and May 25th, 1:15 AM - Read to the Dogs - Bring your favorite book or borrow one of ours and read to a new four-legged friend. These programs are all ages and walk-in. Register if you know you can attend. Walk-ins welcome if not full.
- May 2nd, 10:30 AM - Genealogy Workshop - Susan Koelble, a professional genealogist will lead a free workshop on genealogical research and assist you with your own research on May 2nd at 10:30 A.M. Workshop is held every 1st Wednesday of the month at 10:30 AM.
- May 2nd, 16th and 30th, 6:00 PM – Board Games for Grownups - All experience levels are welcome to join us. We will be showcasing some of our new board games including: Kodama, Imagine, Double Feature, One Night Ultimate Alien, Ex Libris, Who is the Traitor, Salem, 5 Minute Dungeon, and more.
- May 3rd and 17th, 1:00 PM– Color Your Way to Serenity - Color your way to serenity at the Adult Coloring program on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of May at 1:00 P.M. Come and meet your new best friend while you enjoy tea and treats.
- May 3rd, 6:30 PM – Star Wars Jeopardy - Calling all Jedi, Rebels, and scruffy-looking nerf herders! Join us for a fun night with family & friends as you test your knowledge of a galaxy far, far away! You can sign up teams of up to 6 players, or just come as an individual. A prize will be given to the winning team!
- May 4th, 5:00 PM & 6:30 PM - Star Wars After Hours Escape Room – Celebrate May the Fourth with an after regular library hours Star Wars themed escape room! The Resistance needs you. Solve the clues and save BB-8 before the information the droid carries falls into the wrong hands! Recommended ages 12+. Max 8 people per room. - May 5th, 10:00 AM – Weekend Walks Pennypack Trail Northbound - explore the Pennypack Trail again. Walk starts out from the trail parking lot at 800 Old Welsh Rd, Jenkintown, PA 19046 and heads up to the Bryn Athyn Post Office. Meet at the trail head parking lot at 10:00 AM or at 9:30 AM at the library parking lot.
- May 5th, 10:30 AM – Activities in the Morning: Understanding and Caring for Cats - Learn the basics of reading a cat's body language, safe handling and care. Meet Calvin, a therapy cat! Register online.
- May 5th, 2:00 PM – Homesteading 101: What does it take? - Come meet expert, Karena Green, to hear about homesteading from someone who not only grows most of her own fruits and vegetables, but also has experience raising chickens and goats. Learn how she integrates homesteading into her lifestyle in a suburban setting. Register online or call the reference desk at (215) 322-1415.
- May 8th, 6:45 PM – Evening Book Club - Join the book club on Tuesday, May 8th at 6:45 P.M. in the Mary Exum Room for some lively and entertaining discussion. Tuesday’s club is reading Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi.
- May 9th, 2:00 PM – Tea with the BBC – Come celebrate Mother’s Day with a BBC show. Event is held every 2nd Wednesday of the month and features tea, treats and a BBC television mystery. Register online calendar as space is limited.
- May 9th, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM – Stuffed Animal Sleepover - All ages are invited to a special story hour. Come in your pajamas and bring a stuffed animal. Make sure it is not your favorite stuffed animal as the stuffed animal will be sleeping over at the library without you. Together you will listen to stories, enjoy a snack, and create a personal keepsake. Your stuffed animal friend will stay at the library overnight having fun and helping the librarians. When you return the next day, there will be photos of their adventures for you to keep. Please register online.
- May 10th, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM – Meet and Greet with the Women’s Humane Society - Come and meet a few adoptable animals from the Women's Humane Society! Learn about what the Society does and how they help animals. Make a toy for one of the animals back in the shelter. Donations will be accepted for the shelter all through the month of April. Accepting unopened bag and cans of cat or dog food, new toys for cats and dogs, sheets and/or towels (new and used) and monetary donations.
- May 12th, 10:00 AM – Weekend Walks Tyler Gardens - Come explore the gardens of the Tyler estate at Bucks County Community College. Stand on the Council Rock where Native Americans used to meet. Meet either at the library parking lot at 9:30 AM or at the Bucks County Community College in the parking lot down by the soccer fields.
- May 12th, 10:30 AM to 3:00 P.M. – Practice S.A.T. Test - Take a free practice SAT test courtesy of C2 Education. Register online.
- May 15th and 17th,10:30-11:30 A.M. – Block Party - All ages are invited to play with blocks and toys at this walk-in program.
- May 16th, 2:00 PM – Jeopardy! - Try your luck and match wits with your friends and neighbors on Wednesday, May 16th at 2 P.M.
- May 17th, 7:00 PM – PM Jeopardy! - Try your luck and match wits with your friends and neighbors with our new Nighttime edition.
- May 18th at 12:00 PM – Science in the Summer Signups Open - Signups begin 12 P.M. May 18th at http://www.scienceinthesummer.com/ - Not in the Library - Through active, hands-on learning, students explore the sun’s energy, the phases of the moon, human survival in space, and so much more. Our program will be held July 23rd-26th. Open to students entering 2nd to 6th grades only.
- May 19th, 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Free Notary Services from Citizens Bank - Citizens Bank of Davisville Shopping Center will be coming to the Library to offer free notary services. Small snack will be provided.
- May 19th, 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM – Herb Planting for Spring - Sample herbs used in a variety of ways and plant herb seeds in starter pots in celebration of Spring. Register online or call the reference desk at (215) 322-1415.
- May 19th, 2:00 PM – Super Saturday: Justice League - Enjoy snacks and a free screening of a recently released superhero blockbuster movie. No registration required. Showing Justice League (PG-13).
- May 31st, 6:00 PM & 7:00 PM - Star Wars Escape Room – Miss the after hours escape room on May the Fourth? Here’s your chance to save the universe! The Resistance needs you.
