A Special Treat for Summer Readers

For those who spent some of the summer curled up with a book or two, we salute you.

Or more accurately, the Upper St. Clair Township Library salutes you.

That salute takes place this Thursday, Aug. 9. The library’s Adult Summer Reading Program, with the theme “Reading Is Delicious,” comes to a close with a suitably appropriate event: an ice cream social. Stop by and cool off at the township recreation center on McLaughlin Run Road, the one just down the street from the library.

The party should be popular, considering the level of participation in the summer program.

“We’ve had a very good turnout, probably even more so than in the past,” said Susan Latshaw, library administrative assistant. “We’ve had people of all ages.”

The program began in mid-June for anyone who completed ninth grade and older. Along with reading books, participants had the opportunity to attend a number of informative creativity programs throughout the summer.

They also have gotten the opportunity to participate in a raffle, with prizes to be drawn on Thursday.

“We’re doing it a little bit differently this year,” Latshaw said. “Previously, you had to be present to win.”

That’s not the case, but those who do attend the social can win additional prizes.

Among the prizes are gift cards to local restaurants that donated toward the cause: Atria’s, DeLallo’s, Mark Pi’s, Mitchell’s Fish Market, Outback Steakhouse, Piccolina’s and Stonepepper’s Grill.

During the event, Jason Coll will provide entertainment. He is the founder of Frog Prince Theatricals Inc.
